Sam and Owen on their first day of school. Sam was excited to spike his hair and wear his Beach Boys t-shirt he got from the concert Scott took him to a few weeks before.
The boys have been in school for a month at the Regional Multicultural Magnet School. We are very excited that they are able to attend this school, which uses a lottery system to select students throughout the region. We are most excited about the school's great language and music programs. Owen is attending all day Kindergarten and Sam is in 2nd grade. They both enjoy school and really like their teachers. I can already see an improvement in Sam's attitude about school. He is having a better experience than he did in 1st grade.
During the summer we took the kids to their new school for a tour and to meet their teachers. Owen also got to ride the bus for the first time. Sam called the school the "castle school" because it looks like a castle from the outside. Owen was afraid to go at first because he thought he would be going to Hogwarts (Owen has seen portions of Harry Potter and doesn't like it.) Owen warmed up to it, especially since he could hear the train whistle and see the water from the school grounds.
