Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and I was so glad not to do all the cooking. I did contribute a banana cream pie and sweet potato casserole. After making those two dishes, I was exhausted. The kids had a fun time with friends and jumping on the trampoline. Ruby especially loved their dog and followed him around the house. We had a great time eating, chatting and playing games. I played all the teenagers Settlers of Catan and buried them all.

Growing up, my family had the tradition that every person would make a pie. We have had over 20 pies at family Thanksgivings in the past. Scott was very happy to continue this tradition in our own family, but this year was the first year we didn't do it. After making banana cream pie and then a chocolate pie the next day for Owen, I had 12 egg whites to use up and so I made an angel food cake, instead of more pies. That was plenty of dessert and again, I was exhausted. I guess we'll have to have extra pie for Christmas.

Scott missed all the turkey left-overs and decided to smoke a 20 lb. turkey the Sunday following Thanksgiving. It was the loveliest turkey I've ever seen, with such a rich, reddish brown color. It was also very tasty and gave us much too much left-overs. We definitely feasted this Thanksgiving!
