Day 3 Paris

This is the line in the afternoon (that we didn't have to wait in). It wraps all the way up to the golden gates.

We left first thing in the morning for Versailles. It was a very foggy day and when we got to the palace (by train and bus) we couldn’t even see it until we were right next to it. There was no line and we arrived just about opening time. Later in the afternoon, when we were leaving, the line to the entrance was very long.

After visiting the palace we rented tandem bikes and rode around the park and then rode up to Marie Antoinette’s estate Trianon.  We had sandwiches at Angelina’s and the famous hot chocolate. Scott said it was like drinking brownie batter, but it reminded me of my mother’s homemade hot chocolate that she likes to make for my kids when she comes to visit. The chocolate was definitely richer and I really liked it.   

After the Trianon, we went to the coach museum. They also had on display adorable sleds that royalty used in the winter down the hills.

We took the bus back to the train station. Our metro tickets work on the buses, too, but they don’t seem to care if you pay for the bus.

Versailles was the only thing we planned for the day, but we got back with time and so we tried to get into the catacombs. There was a very long line and so we went to the Rodin museum. *You can buy advance tickets to the catacombs for twice the price, but if it is important on your list, just pay the advance ticket price. We tried again another day to see the catacombs and the line was just as long (about an hour wait time we were told.)

After the museum, we went to Napoleon’s tomb. 

We didn’t have reservations anywhere for dinner so we went out for a casual meal at a Naples inspired pizza place near our apartment, recommended by our host. It was delicious and they let us in a few minutes early (they didn’t open until 7:30 pm). After that we walked home and stopped in another restaurant just for dessert where I had the crème brulee (incredible) and Scott had vanilla cake.

In our third day we visited three sights, plus we went to the Lego store, which was close to our apartment.
