Bethany and Owen celebrated their birthdays this month. Scott made Bethany the best birthday cake...a lemon layer cake that was light and fluffy with a delicious lemon filling. He even let Owen help crack all 12 eggs the recipe called for. It was a lovely birthday even though Scott convinced Bethany that for their date they were going to buy a part he needed for the Volkswagon and then stop at Taco Bell for dinner, if there was time. Instead he had made reservations at her favorite restaurant, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and we didn't have to do any shopping for the bug!
Bethany made Owen's birthday cake for his five year-old birthday breakfast pancake party. We called it the pancake pile-up and incorporated a construction theme. We played fun games, ate buttermilk pancakes with lots of topping choices, opened presents and ate cake. Owen was having so much fun he didn't want to stop to have cake. So we had six little kids waiting patiently at the table for cake and Owen crying in the kitchen that he didn't feel like it. Eventually he calmed down, blew out his candles and promptly left the table to play. He has had a great weekend playing with all his new toys and is so proud to be five years old.
