Sam's first heat and the clear winner!

This year was Sam's first to participate in the cub scout pinewood derby. Scott worked with him to carve his piece of wood into a crocodile and Sam painted it. Before we left Sam kept saying how excited he was to go and win the pinewood derby. I reminded him that there would be a lot of competition and that this was his first year so he might not win, since many of the boys had raced more than once. I just didn't want him to be too disappointed.
There were 24 cub scouts competing and it was exciting to watch Sam's car fly past the others as the clear winner in his first heat! There were three lanes and each car was raced on each lane and their times averaged. For best overall time, Sam came in 3rd place for all 24 cars (the first place winner also won last year). He was the 1st place winner for the wolf pack and he was pretty happy to hear all the kids chant his name. Scott already knows what to do to next year's car to win next year's race.
