A musical trip down memory lane
For Valentine's Day Scott got us tickets to see Sharon Van Etten in Boston at the Paradise Rock club. It was a really fun show. Her music is mellow and melodic. Listening to her makes me want to pick up the guitar again. I used to play and even write my own songs, but I can't even remember how to play those anymore. I liked the playlist, but she didn't play my favorite song, "One Day." It was fun to be at a venue like that again, standing close to the front of the stage with a relatively small crowd. It took me back 10 years when I would go see Scott play with his own band. I even liked the opening band, Shearwater (I usually grumble through the opening act, watching the clock and figuring out how late we are going to be getting home and if I should call the babysitter). They had a lot more energy than Sharon and a lot more volume. My ears were still ringing the next morning. Scott and I both thought it was funny watching Sharon's drummer really get into the music. A few weeks ago I had commented that it must be boring to be her drummer, her music usually has a very simple and steady beat. He didn't look bored, so I guess it's what you make of it!
