Bermuda

Scott had to go to Bermuda for a work assignment and for Valentine's Day he took me along. It was such a wonderful vacation for the two of us. Scott's parents came and stayed with the kids and endured all that awful snow we had in CT. We can't thank them enough.

Bermuda was lovely even though the weather is very unpredictable in February and some attractions were closed. We still enjoyed the pink beaches, snorkeled, explored crystal caves and ate very expensive and delicious food.

This is the view from our room at Grotto Bay. We had  a little beach to swim around and then we could rinse off and jump in the heated pool or soak in the hot tub. There were also two sunken ships we explored.

St. George was a fun old town to site see. Besides being able to pose for pictures in the stocks, the town also does reenactments. We saw St. Peters church (above) and the ruins of a church never finished (below). We also explored St. Catherine's fort.

We stayed at Grotto Bay and they have their own small crystal caves that you can swim in. It was cold, but lots of fun and of course we could just jump in the heated pool afterward. We told Violet that it was Ariel's Grotto, but we couldn't find any of her collection because King Triton had destroyed everything.

* I still remember when I was little my Dad brought us some Keebler cookies after he had been out hunting. Growing up, we never had store bought cookies, except for Oreos at Grandma's house and we were only allowed to eat those with ice cream for after dinner dessert. So, when Dad brought us these cookies that we never got to have,  he told us that while he was hunting he found the Keebler Elves tree and the elves gave him the cookies straight from the tree! I believed that story for far too long.  I know some people think it is terrible to "lie" to your children, but I like to think of it as "developing the imagination".

Scott sculpted a sand mermaid at Elbow Beach. The sand in Bermuda is like clay and fun to play in. We found pink shells and coral that make Bermuda's pink sand.

View from the lighthouse in St. David's. I love all the pastel houses in Bermuda.

This is Tobacco Bay. We heard it has the best snorkeling, but the day we went it was covered with so much seaweed and the water was pretty rough, that we didn't snorkel. We did snorkel at Snorkel Bay earlier that week on a beautiful warm day and the water was calm.

Here is one of the sunken ships we snorkeled around. The water is so clear in Bermuda.
