Frozen Obsession

Like many little girls, my girls are obsessed with Frozen. I think it is especially adorable for them because it is about sisters and they can both be princesses. Ruby always pretends to be Elsa and Violet is happy to be Anna and have her hair in "Anna braids" all the time.

Since their birthdays are only a couple of days a part, I wanted to get them costumes. I was very disappointed with the costume options. Many Elsa costumes were sold out or were only in Violet's size. The Disney store online was not helpful at all and I kept checking back to see if new stock had been added. I thought for sure when the movie came to video they would have more merchandise, but the shelves were even more bare than before.

Finally, looking online, I found some hand crafted costumes that inspired me to make my own.I was very excited about it, which was good because I spent more money than I thought I would. The fabric itself wasn't too expensive, but then there were all the notions, details and I bought a simple dress pattern and it added up quickly. I guess I paid the same as I would for a cheaply made costume from Toys R US and this is definitely better quality and will last through washes and lots of play. The buttons have snowflakes on them and the lace for Ruby's dress is bridal fabric and looks like sparkly ice.

I sewed a little each day during Violet's naps, while Ruby was at school. I was also worried that the girls (especially Ruby) would not be happy that the dresses didn't look exactly like the movie costumes, but  the girls loved them! They wore them while they watched the movie, which Violet got on her birthday. Ruby says her dress itches, so I need to line the lace with some ribbon on the neckline. They both want me to make the coronation dresses, too.

My little princesses! Ruby did not want to take pictures and Violet was having too much fun running around, that this is the best I could get for the two of them.
